Yasmine Hernandez and Hailey Streff, members of the CSU-Pueblo distance medley relay quartet that won the title with Helen Braybrook and Taylor Holland in 11:23.21 at the NCAA Division 2 Indoor Championships on March 11 at Pittsburg State in Kansas, join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing in the final Division 2 national outdoor championship meet of their collegiate careers May 26-28 at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan. Hernandez and Streff, both outdoor All-Americans last season at Grand Valley State, speak about competing together in the 1,500 meters and how fitting a conclusion it will be for the friends, teammates and roommates, before they shift focus to racing in different events June 5 at the Music City Track Carnival at Vanderbilt, which is also expected to be the final competitive race of Streff's career, before she transitions into veterinary school at Colorado State in Fort Collins. Hernandez explains how beneficial it was to compete May 15 at the Last Chance Invitational in Pueblo against Adams State senior Roisin Flanagan. Hernandez clocked 4:21.37 and Flanagan ran 4:21.76 at 4,700 feet elevation, which converts to 4:15.87 and 4:16.25 at sea level, making the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standouts the top two entries in the 1,500 entering the May 26 semifinals. Streff shares what she has learned from races at Air Force and CSU-Pueblo since competing April 14 at sea level at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University in California, in order to try to advance to the May 28 final and compete again for All-America honors. Both athletes share how meaningful it has been to qualify for five consecutive Division 2 national championship events following the pandemic, and how grateful they are to have collaborated with coach Matt Morris and their teammates throughout their careers. Streff shares how significant it will be to compete in her final college meet with her sister Cami, a sophomore at Augustana in South Dakota, who is entered in the 800. Hernandez examines the challenges she will face to secure her first career NCAA individual title after anchoring the victorious DMR in March. She also looks forward to racing as a post-collegiate athlete, with Streff continuing to follow the careers of both her sister and Hernandez. They also examine the potential of teammates Jenna McKinley in the shot put, Braybrook in the 800, along with male teammates representing CSU-Pueblo in the 400, 800, 4x400 and shot put at Grand Valley State.
